Our call barring feature allows you to block calls to chosen destinations on a per extension basis.
By default, all customers (and extensions) are able to call UK numbers and certain low cost international destinations. For an up to date list of our low cost international destinations please see this page. Any attempt to make a call to any other country will fail, and you will hear a forbidden tone.
If you wish, you can manually allow calls to other destinations of your choice.
Modifying call barring settings
To modify your call barring settings, click on International & Premium Calling within the Billing & Usage menu in your control panel (see below).
At the top of the International and premium rate calling section, you will see the settings for the United Kingdom first of all. UK calls are split into 6 sections which you can see in the screenshot below. You can control which type of UK telephone numbers can be called using the On and Off buttons next to each type of number.
You can see below that I can call all types of UK number apart from Premium rate telephone numbers. If you wanted to allow calls to premium rate numbers on this account, then all you have to do is simply click on the Off button next to Premium rate and this will then turn on the ability to call Premium Rate numbers from this account.
Calls to Premium rate numbers are now allowed.
Underneath the United Kingdom calling settings you will find the settings for Internaltional calling. At the very top is a button so that you can toggle between allowing and barring International calling as a whole. Select this to On in order to allow International calling, and Off to bar International calling altogether.
The countries are split into continents on the left-hand side. Alternatively, you can select All Countries which will display a list of all International calling destinations in one long list that is arranged alphabetically. There is also a Search countries option to the right of that so that you can free-type and find a destination that you would like to configure.
In the screenshot below, I have selcted the continent of Africa. By default, you can see that in Africa, calls to Algeria, Angola, and Benin are allowed (as they are On), but calls to all other African countries are barred (Off). To allow calls to Cameroon you would simply click on the Off button adjacent to the country name (see below).
Calls to Cameroon are now allowed on the account.
If you wanted to allow calls to all destinations in Africa in one go, you can simply click the Allow all button that appears above the barred destinations.
By default, when allowing calls to a specific international destination, you will be able to call numbers in that country at a maximum cost of £0.20 pence per minute. Some numbers in selected countries may cost more that 20p per minute to call so we have created an Exceptions option. This allows you to increase (or decrease) the maximum cost per minute across certain international countries or for all countries in one go.
To do this click on the Create an exception button at the bottom of the screen.
Here you can also create an exception that allows one or more people to call phone numbers that would be blocked by your normal International & Premium calling settings.
First of all, you select who in your organistation that the exception will apply to and click Next Step. Below I have selected for this exception to be applied to everyone in my organistion.
You can then select where (the destination), that the exception should apply to. For the example below, I have selected Cameroon form the country list. Click Next Step.
Here I am able to increase or decrease the maxmim cost per minute by using the up arrow (to increase), and down (to decrease) the value in pence. In the screenshot below I have increased the maximum cost per minute to Cameroon from 20p to 50p. Click Create Exception and you will then get a confimation that your Exception has been created.
I have now succesfully allowed everyone in my organisation to call all numbers in Cameroon that will cost up to 50 pence per minute.
Creating Exceptions is a great way to control and regulate outbound calls for your organistion. Once created, they will appear as a list at the bottom of the International and premium rate calling page. Here you can also switch your exceptions On and Off and create new exceptions. You can also click on the cog on the right-hand side of your exception to Edit or Delete any existing rules that you have created.
