The Sangoma Vega Gateway doesn't have a visual way of showing your its current IP address. To find out the IP address of your advice you have several methods:
- By checking your DHCP records
- Using the console port
- Working out the APIPA address
Checking DHCP records
A Sangoma Vega Gateway will perform a DHCP request when powered on. If your router is designed to respond to DHCP requests then you can simply check the DHCP logs on your router or server.
If you don't have access to the router then Linux users can scan the network using the following command:
nmap -sp 192.168.2.0/24
In the results, look for the MAC address of the Ethernet interface (this can be found on a white sticker above the LAN port).
Alternatively you can download and run AngryIP to scan the network for you.
You can use minicom, PuTTY, Hyperterminal or an equivalent program and an Ethernet crossover cable connected to the unit's console port to display the IP address information. Configure your client to use the following settings:
- Speed: 115200
- Data bits: 8
- Parity: none
- Stop bits: 1
- Flow control: none
Turn on the Sangoma Vega gateway and press enter to get the login prompt. Enter "show banner" to show system identification information.
If there is no DHCP available then the gateway will assign itself an automatic IP address using Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA). To work out the IP address the unit will have set itself, do the following:
- Find the MAC address of the LAN1 port (this will be on a white sticker above the port)
- Convert the last two pairs from hex to decimal
- This will now complete the IP address in the format of 169.254.*.*
For example, if the MAC address of the LAN1 port was 00:50:58:00:1F:20, you would use the last two pairs (1F:20).
1F is 31 in decimal. 20 is 32 in decimal (this website will help with the conversion if you're not sure). The IP address of the unit will therefore be 169.254.31.32
To access the unit, you would then need to set your computer to the same subnet and use an Ethernet crossover cable connected to the console port to access the machine.
