VoIP clients to be used on a mobile phone are growing in popularity, and the Gradwell team are seeing an increase in requests to help configure these clients.
Unfortunately new VoIP clients are appearing on a weekly basis, and we are also finding that existing mobile clients are also being updated regularly by their developers, sometimes changing drastically between versions.
Therefore providing a comprehensive list of knowledgebase articles is not possible. Our support knowledgebase does contain several VoIP mobile client configuration guides, however if you find that your particular client is not listed then this guide might help you to set your chosen client up. We have collated the most common terms used as a handy pointer to what information you may need to enter when setting up your client.
Details you need to know
Before beginning to configure your client, it is useful to have the following details to hand:
- Your seven digit extension number
- The password for your extension
- Our SIP server, sip.gradwell.com
- Our proxy server, nat.gradwell.com
Once you have these details to hand, access the settings or configuration area in your client.
Entering your extension number
These are the field names where you are likely to need to enter your seven digit extension number:
- Authorisation name
- User ID
SIP server details
These are the field names where you are likely to need to enter the name of our SIP server, sip.gradwell.com.
- External server
- SIP server
If you are prompted for a Port, in most cases you will want to enter 5060.
If at no point you appear to be asked for SIP server details (for example, the client only asks for an authorisation name) try entering XXXXXXX@sip.gradwell.com, replacing the XXXXXXX with your seven digit extension number.
Proxy server details
These are the field names where you are likely to need to enter the name of our proxy server, nat.gradwell.com.
- Outbound proxy
- Proxy address
- Outbound proxy server
If you are asked to enter a Port, in most cases you will want to enter 5082. If you are not asked to enter a port number, enter the proxy server as nat.gradwell.com:5082.
DTMF tones are used when you are presented with a menu and asked to select an option. If you are asked to configure this please set it to RFC2833.
VoIP over 3G/4G
Please note that not all mobile networks support the use of VoIP over 3G, and that call quality may vary on each call. Therefore our customer services team are unable to support any issues you have whilst attempting to make VoIP calls over a 3G network.
