A "softphone" is a piece of software that you install on your device that allows you to experience VoIP technology and experiment with set up and call quality. For customers who use the Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, the Acrobits Softphone is an excellent example of this.
The Acrobits Softphone app is available from the iTunes store, and requires iOS 3.0 or later on the devices above. There is a small fee for the app, however Gradwell are a verified operator with Acrobits, which means that you only need to know your Gradwell extension number and password to register and use the device, with the input of further credentials not necessary.
The setup of the Acrobits app is extremely simple, however if you need it you can view our walkthrough guide below to assist you with the process.
If you are attempting to use the Acrobits Softphone on a 3G network, you may find it beneficial to purchase and use the G729 codec alongside the app. The G729 codec uses less bandwidth than standard codecs, whilst still retaining excellent call quality. It is excellent in situations where there is limited bandwidth available. If you wish to use this add-on, please contact customer services before attempting to use it as we will have to enable support for the G729 codec on your account.
Please note that not all mobile networks support the use of VoIP over 3G, and that call quality may vary on each call. Therefore our customer services team are unable to support any issues you have whilst attempting to make VoIP calls over a 3G network.
