Unpack the phone and base station. Follow the instructions in the installation manual to set the device up.
Switch the power on and leave the phone and base to initialise for a minute or two. If you purchased your device from Gradwell, we will have configured it for use with your first extension. However, if you wish to add or edit an account, or if the phone was not purchased from us, you will need to know how to do this yourself.
The easiest way to configure the phone is via the web interface. To access this, set the device up as described above, and then enter the IP address of the phone into a web browser.
If you purchased the phone from Gradwell, please see this guide for information on the username and password. If you purchased the phone from another provider, the default username and password is:
- Username: admin
- Password: password
Please ensure that you change these default values as soon as possible - further information can be found in this article.
If you are unsure of the IP address for your snom M9, press the right arrow on a handset to open the settings menu and scroll to System Info. The IP address will be displayed.
From the web interface, select an identity from the left hand menu to configure.
You will need to configure the following fields:
- Display Name: this will be displayed on the handset to help identify the account
- Account: enter the seven digit extension number here
- Registrar: enter sip.gradwell.net
- Outbound Proxy: if you are in a NAT environment, enter nat.gradwell.com:5082 in this field. A sign that you are in a NAT environment is if your phone has an IP address similar to 192.168.X.X, or you experience one way audio when attempting to make calls (the other party can hear you, but you can't hear them)
- Authentication Name: Enter the seven digit extension number here
- Password: This is the password that you set up for the extension in the Gradwell control panel
Click on SIP and ensure that Server Type is set to Asterisk.
You may also need to register the handset to the account. Click on Handset and select the desired handset from the dropdown box. If you are unsure of the correct handset ID, press the right arrow on the handset, scroll to Handset and then select Version. The handset ID will be listed at the top.
Click Save and your handset should register. You can now make and receive calls.
Advanced configuration and troubleshooting
Upgrading the firmware
Upgrading your device’s firmware can often solve problems you experience with your device. To do this, go to the snom wiki and select the version of firmware that is installed on your phone. This will link to another page that has the latest version of the firrmware.
You will see a URL that ends in .bin. Copy this link into your clipboard.
From the web interface, click on Maintenance and paste the URL into the Software Update field and click Update.
The base station for your device will download and install the new firmware. It is very important that you do not turn off the power to the base station during the update process.
You can now update the firmware on your handsets. Press the right arrow key to enter the settings menu. Scroll down to Handset, and then to FW Update. You will be prompted to place your handset onto the charger. Once you do this the firmware will update, and will take around five minutes.
