If you want to restrict access to some parts of your website you can add them to a Protected Directory. Visitors browsing to files in your protected directories will be prompted for a username and password before viewing the files.
Please note that this functionality provides HTTP protection only to these files (so a username and password will only be requested when attempting to view the files in a web browser).
After logging in click Websites in the top menu bar (if you have more than one subscription ensure that the correct website is selected from the dropdown box in the top right hand corner).
Select your website and then on the next page, select More Tools...
...and then Protected Directories.
You will see a list of all current protected directories on your website. To create a new one, click Add New Protected Directory.
You will need to enter a name for the directory and a header that will be displayed to the visitor when they attempt to access files in the directory. If the directory doesn't already exist on your webspace then it is created. In the example below, if your website was mywebspace.gradwellcloud.com the protected directory would be located at mywebspace.gradwellcloud.com/protect.
Click Submit to complete the creation of your new protected directory. You will be returned to the list of protected directories, to delete one simply select it and then click Delete. Please note that this only removes the protection and does not delete the directory completely (this can be done using the file manager tool in your control panel, via FTP or by SSH).
In order to grant access to your protected directories, you need to create users using your control panel. To do this, click on the directory you wish to create a user for....
...and then select Users from the top menu bar, followed by Add New User.
Enter the desired login and password for the user and click Submit. This person can then enter these details to access files in their web browser.
