Mozilla Thunderbird is a free email client that can be used to send and receive email. Configuration to use it for Gradwell mail services is a simple process.
First you will need to create a mailbox in your online control panel. Make sure that the username and password is noted down, as this will be required during the setup of your email account within Thunderbird.
The initial steps to configure the client will depend on whether you have previously used the program or not.
Thunderbird has never been used on your computer before
If Thunderbird has been installed but never used on the computer before then you will be prompted to configure an email account. Click Skip this and use my existing email button to begin.
If you accidentally click I think I'll configure my account later then simply click Email on the main screen on Thunderbird.
Thunderbird has already got an email account configured on it
If your instance of Mozilla Thunderbird already has an email account configured on it, click the three horizontal bars in the right hand corner of the program. Select Options and then Account Settings... from the dropdown menu.
The account settings screen will appear. Select Account Actions from the bottom left hand corner and then click on Add Mail Account...
Configuring your email account
The mail account setup wizard will now appear. Enter your name as you would like it to appear to others when you send outgoing mail, and then enter the email address and password that was configured in the online control panel. Click Continue.
Thunderbird will now attempt to auto-populate the rest of the configuration for you. This won't be successful, and this is completely normal. Instead, enter the following details into the server hostname fields:
- Incoming: enter imap.gradwellcloud.com
- Outgoing: enter smtp.gradwellcloud.com
Now click Re-test. The other fields (SSL and authentication) should auto-populate. If this fails for any reason simply enter the configuration manually as below, ensuring that the Username field is set to your email address.
Click Done when finished.
Your email account should now successfully be setup and ready to send and receive email.
