When you register a domain you purchase the right to use that domain for a fixed period of time. If you wish to retain the domain you must renew it at the end of this period in order to continue the right to use it.
If you do not renew the domain after this time, it will usually enter a 'grace period' where you have the opportunity to repurchase the right to use the domain, however you may find that your website and email do not work.
If you do not renew the domain after this period, then it will be released as available for purchase, allowing anyone who wants to to register it.
If your domain is purchased by someone else, it is extremely unlikely that you will be able to retrieve it. Therefore it is extremely important that you ensure that your domain is renewed before it expires if you wish to retain use of it.
By default domains registered with Gradwell are set to auto-renew. Before your domain is due to expire we will raise an order to renew the domain and attempt to take payment. Once payment is received we will renew your domain.
If this payment fails, or you have turned off the auto-renew functionality, you will need to ensure that you promptly renew your domain. If you have any issues renewing your domain please contact our customer services team.
