.htaccess files allows you to manage behaviour of your website, for example specifying custom error pages, restricting access to file directory listings and rewriting URLs.
As our platform allows you to configure a lot of this within your control panel (in the Web Hosting Settings section), you need to tell our system if you are using a custom .htaccess file.
Once you have written your .htaccess file, upload it to your web space using FTP or the online file manager.
In your control panel and select Manage Website from the websites box (if you have more than one website hosted with Gradwell you will have to choose the correct one using the dropdown box).
From the next page, select Web Hosting Settings.
On the foot of the web hosting settings page, click the Sync htaccess button.
Custom error pages
Please note that if you are trying to use custom error pages, you will need to turn the system pages off in the control panel. To do this select Error Documents from the top menu of the page.
You will see a list of error pages, simply click the one you want to turn off.
Click Edit and then set the error page to Off.
